Surgical Programs

Thanks to you, our partners, each of the following countries, and so many more, hosted successful surgical programs.

Ecuador hosted a surgical program at the Luis Gabriel Dávila Provincial General Hospital in Tulcán from April 27 to 30, 2023. With the support of medical volunteers and strategic partners, more than 50 patients received comprehensive care evaluations and 26 patients received surgery.

Dominican Republic hosted its 31st surgical program in May 2023, with a goal of performing 60 surgeries. They conducted comprehensive evaluations on 107 patients and exceeded goal by performing 68 surgeries with a team of volunteers from USA, Canada, Nicaragua, Honduras, Panama, Brazil, Guatemala, and Dominican Republic.

Guatemala held its first Dental Champions Program in Guatemala City, alongside Francisco Marroquín University (UFM) and the University of North Carolina (UNC) from June 12 to 16, 2023. The main objective of the Dental Champions Program is to train future dentists to use the necessary techniques to treat patients with cleft lip and palate. Champions from UNC worked alongside residents from UFM to evaluate and treat 32 patients.

Mexico hosted its 66th surgical program in Monterrey, Nuevo León, from July 5 to 14, 2023. This program included two days of comprehensive evaluations and five days of surgery. More than 90 volunteers attended from Honduras, USA, Peru, Nicaragua, Colombia, Paraguay, Bolivia and Mexico. They performed 170 evaluations and 146 surgical procedures on 88 patients. They also performed 25 dental procedures.
