Building On Your Legacy
At Operation Smile Canada, we believe that all children deserve to live their lives with dignity. And for those suffering from cleft lip, cleft palate, or other facial deformities, dignity begins with a smile. Using our global network of credentialed medical volunteers, in as little as 45 minutes, a simple surgery repairs these smiles.
The impact of our work truly creates a ripple effect and helps leave a legacy that lives well beyond our medical missions. By making a planned gift to Operation Smile Canada, you too will create a legacy — a Legacy of Smiles that will have a lasting impact on you, your family, and the children we help together.
Operation Smile Canada Foundation (OSCF) has practical giving options that allow you to transform the lives of children without risking your financial security. By using your financial assets in the most cost-effective way, it is possible to build on your legacy and support a worthwhile cause that touches your heart.
Here are some planned giving options for you to consider. We strongly encourage you to consult with your financial advisor and/or lawyer before committing to any of these gift options.
Gifts by Will
Sometimes called a bequest, a gift by will is an easy way to contribute to the cause you supported in life and leave a lasting legacy for children born with cleft lip and cleft palate. This can include cash, securities, and other assets.
If your legal adviser asks for sample language, we typically suggest either of the two clauses below:
"I give Operation Smile Canada Foundation (Charitable registration # 84064 3605 RR001), or its successor xx% of the residue of my estate."; or
"I give Operation Smile Canada Foundation (Charitable registration # 84064 3605 RR001), or its successor the sum of $xxxx."
Please note that it is difficult for us to accept a restricted bequest gift, as we can’t anticipate the future need, level and/or type of intervention required, or area of priority. We can, however, accept donations that fall within one of the three parameters below:
- Supporting surgical interventions for individuals with cleft lip/palate or other facial deformities around the world;
- Supporting training and education to develop the skills of health professionals around the world;
- Supporting research such as, determining the causes and effects of clefting and facial deformities, best treatment options, barriers to accessing care, etc.
Gifts of Life Insurance
Life insurance is an affordable method of giving a significant future gift by making modest contributions today. Depending on the structure of your gift, you can receive tax relief annually during life or at death for the full value of the gift.
Gifts of Securities
Donating stocks, bonds, or shares in mutual funds can be an effective way to make a significant gift that will impact the lives of children waiting for surgery.
Today’s consumers expect corporations to provide quality products at fair prices and to give back to the greater community. A charitable gift to OSCF can speak to the hearts of your customers.
Many companies utilize the tax benefits of an employee giving program. Supporting your employees’ charitable priorities can improve morale and productivity.
If you and your financial advisor think the benefits of building on your legacy through a planned gift to OSCF might be right for you, contact us at 905-470-6861 or email email@example.com.
