AUSTRALIA

Website: Operation Smile Australia

Presence established: 1999

Operation Smile Australia, located in Brisbane, Queensland, provides volunteer support, raises funds and builds awareness about cleft conditions worldwide. Operation Smile Australia also supports Operation Smile's World Care program, which provides surgical care to patients with more complicated deformities that cannot be treated during medical missions in the patients' home countries. Since this program began, Operation Smile Australia has treated 30 World Care patients from countries in Southeast Asia.

BOLIVIA

Website: Operation Smile Bolivia

First medical mission in Bolivia: 1999

Since 1999, Operation Smile has conducted medical programs in the cities of Cochobamba and Santa Cruz, where patients from the capital city of La Paz can access Operation Smile’s cleft lip and cleft palate services.

In addition to providing free surgical care in Bolivia, Operation Smile offers ongoing speech therapy, dentistry, and psychology in the Santa Cruz offices, and provides free consultations to around 300 patients per month.

Operation Smile's global volunteer network includes more than 80 volunteers from Bolivia, who donate their time in Bolivia and all over the world. In the past 16 years, Operation Smile has treated more than 2,900 patients in Bolivia with cleft lip, cleft palate, and other facial deformities.

BRAZIL

Website: Operation Smile Brazil

First medical mission in Brazil: 1997

Since 1997, Operation Smile has conducted medical missions in 11 cities across Brazil. Operation Smile's current programmatic focus is on the northeastern and Amazonian regions of Brazil, where residents lack access to the world-class cleft care that is primarily available in the country’s southern metropolitan cities.

In 2014, Operation Smile opened a new site in Porto Velho, and conducted patient surveys there to identify patients’ barriers to accessing surgical care. Wherever feasible, Operation Smile's objective is to remove those barriers to care and then offer outreach and large-scale surgical programs.

Operation Smile's global volunteer network includes 130 volunteers from Brazil, who donate their time in Brazil and all over the world. Over the last 18 years, Operation Smile has provided surgical care to more than 4,300 patients in Brazil with cleft lip, cleft palate and other facial deformities.

CANADA

Presence established: 2011

Operation Smile Canada, located in Toronto, provides volunteer support, raises funds and builds awareness about cleft conditions worldwide. Operation Smile’s Canadian volunteers and supporters have helped provide thousands of reconstructive surgeries for children around the world.

CHINA

First medical mission in China: 1991

Since 1991, Operation Smile has conducted medical programs in 79 cities across China. Medical volunteers have treated more than 22,700 patients on 164 medical missions.

COLOMBIA

Website: Operation Smile Colombia

First medical mission in Colombia: 1988

Since 1988, Operation Smile has conducted medical programs in 36 cities across Colombia. Year round comprehensive care services are offered in Duitama and in Operation Smile’s permanent care center in Bogotá. The multidisciplinary centers in Bogotá and Duitama offer surgeries, speech therapy, psychology consultations, dental and orthodontic care, nutrition consultations and social work consultations.

For families unable to travel to Bogotá or Duitama, Operation Smile has developed a national program, where credentialed volunteers train local medical professionals to provide follow-up services.

Operation Smile's global medical volunteer network includes hundreds of Colombian medical professionals, who care for children in Colombia and around the world. Over the past 26 years, Operation Smile has provided free surgical care to more than 15,800 patients in Colombia with cleft lip, cleft palate and other facial deformities.

DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF THE CONGO

First medical mission in Democratic Republic of the Congo: 2009

Since 2009, Operation Smile has conducted medical programs in Kinshasa and Lubumbashi, the two largest cities in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Currently, Operation Smile is focusing not only on our ability to treat cleft lip and cleft palate but also to increase the surgical capacity of the country overall.

Over the last six years, Operation Smile has provided surgical care to more than 1,000 patients in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

DOMINICAN REPUBLIC

First medical mission in Dominican Republic: 2009

Since 2009, Operation Smile has conducted medical programs in the cities of La Romana, Santo Domingo, and La Vega. In 2013, Operation Smile partnered with professors and students at Universidad Iberoamericana in Santo Domingo to launch the country’s first dental program. Additionally, in 2014, Operation Smile hosted the first annual Central America and the Caribbean Education Conference for volunteers in the specialties of anesthesiology, pediatrics, dentistry, and plastic surgery in the Dominican Republic.

Operation Smile's global volunteer network includes dozens of medical professionals as well as hundreds of non-medical volunteers from the Dominican Republic working to treat children in the Dominican Republic as well as the rest of Latin American and the Caribbean. Over the past six years, Operation Smile has provided free reconstructive surgery to more than 1,100 patients in the Dominican Republic.

ECUADOR

First medical mission in Ecuador: 1995

Since 1995, Operation Smile has conducted medical programs in 24 cities across Ecuador and has provided medical care to more than 6,000 patients with cleft conditions. Operation Smile's global volunteer network includes more than 55 medical professionals from Ecuador who donate their time to heal patients with cleft lip and cleft palate in their country and around the world.

Since 2006, Operation Smile has conducted medical programs in five cities in Egypt, including Alexandria and Cairo. First medical mission in Ghana: 2011

Since 2011, Operation Smile has conducted medical programs across Ghana in cities including Accra, Cape Coast, Tamale, and Tema.

Operation Smile's global volunteer network includes over a dozen medical professionals from Ghana who donate their time in Ghana and around the world. Operation Smile has conducted seven medical missions in Ghana and treated more than 550 patients with cleft lip, cleft palate and other facial deformities.

GUATEMALA

First medical mission in Guatemala: 2011

Since 2011, Operation Smile has conducted medical programs in Guatemala City, the country’s capital and largest city. In 2014, Operation Smile held an international surgical mission at a hospital in Guatemala City, where Operation Smile now holds weekly clinics providing dental, oral hygiene, psychology and speech therapy services.

Operation Smile's global volunteer network includes more than a dozen volunteers from Guatemala who donate their time in Guatemala. In the past four years, Operation Smile has provided reconstructive surgery to more than 600 patients in Guatemala.

HAITI

First medical mission in Haiti: 2008

Operation Smile conducted its first medical program in Haiti in 2008. Following the devastating earthquake there in 2010, Operation Smile sent 11 teams of medical volunteers over a three-month period to provide orthopedic surgery to more than 300 patients. The following year, Operation Smile consulted with Partners in Health on the construction of the Hospital Universitaire de Mirebalais, and provided nursing trainings to OR and PICU staff once the hospital opened in 2012. Since 2008, Operation Smile has provided surgical care to close to 500 patients in Haiti.

HONDURAS

First medical mission in Honduras: 1997

Since 1997, Operation Smile has conducted medical programs in six cities across Honduras, including San Pedro Sula, Santa Rosa de Copan, and Tegucigalpa. A year round cleft lip and cleft palate care center in Tegucigalpa offers free surgeries to patients with post-operative care and also offers continuous dental and orthodontics care, pediatrics care, speech therapy, audiology and psychology consultations. In 2014, Operation Smile held its first volunteer conference in conjunction with a surgical mission at our care center in Tegucigalpa.

Operation Smile's global volunteer network includes more than 50 medical professionals and as well as hundreds of non-medical volunteers from Honduras. Over the past 18 years, Operation Smile has treated more than 3,600 patients in Honduras with cleft lip, cleft palate and other facial deformities.

INDIA

First medical mission in India: 2002

Operation Smile has conducted medical programs in 24 Indian cities since 2002, and currently operates 12 care centers throughout the country. Operation Smile's global volunteer network includes over 350 medical professionals from India, who donate their time in India and all over the world. Over the last 13 years, Operation Smile medical volunteers have treated more than 22,000 patients in India with cleft lip and cleft palate conditions.

IRELAND

Presence established: 2004

Operation Smile Ireland, located in Dublin, provides volunteer support, raises funds and builds awareness about cleft conditions worldwide. Operation Smile Ireland's volunteers and supporters have helped provide thousands of reconstructive surgeries for children around the world. In 2014, Operation Smile hosted its 24th Annual International Student Leadership Conference in Limerick, Ireland, with 450 participants from 25 countries in attendance.

ITALY

Operation Smile Italy, located in Rome, provides volunteer support, raises funds and builds awareness about cleft conditions worldwide. Operation Smile Italy's volunteers and supporters have helped provide thousands of reconstructive surgeries for children around the world.

JORDAN

Website: Operation Smile Jordan

First medical mission in Jordan: 2000

Since 2000, Operation Smile has conducted more than 30 medical programs in six cities in Jordan, including Amman and Irbid. In addition to caring for Jordanian patients, Operation Smile has provided surgical care to Iraqi, Syrian and Palestinian children in Jordan. Operation Smile also runs a permanent center, located in Amman, which provides year-round surgical care, medical evaluations, speech therapy and life support training.

Operation Smile's global volunteer network includes more than 55 Jordanian medical professionals, as well as hundreds of non-medical volunteers who donate their time in Jordan and around the world. Over the past 15 years, Operation Smile has provided medical care to more than 2,600 patients in Jordan.

KENYA

First medical mission in Kenya: 1987

Operation Smile has conducted medical programs in eight cities across Kenya, including Eldoret, Kisumu, Mombasa, Nairobi, and Nakuru. Since 2014, Operation Smile has conducted American Heart Association trainings, as well as weekly clinics and education trainings in Nairobi.

Operation Smile's global volunteer network includes 170 volunteers from Kenya, who volunteer their time in Kenya and around the world. Since 1987, Operation Smile has provided free surgical treatment in Kenya to more than 9,100 patients born with cleft lip, cleft palate, and other facial deformities.

MADAGASCAR

First medical mission in Madagascar: 2007

Since 2007, Operation Smile has conducted medical programs in several cities across Madagascar, including Antananarivo, Antsirabe, and Tamatave.

Over the past eight years, Operation Smile has provided free surgical care to more than 1,550 patients in Madagascar with cleft lip, cleft palate, and other facial deformities.

KENYA

First medical mission in Kenya: 2012

Over the past three years, Operation Smile has conducted two medical missions in Malawi and provided free reconstructive surgery to 308 patients with cleft lip, cleft palate, and other facial deformities.

MEXICO

First medical mission in Mexico: 2006

Since 2006, Operation Smile has conducted medical programs in eight cities across Mexico. In 2014, a team of Mexican and international medical volunteers provided surgical procedures at our inaugural mission in Ecatepec, Estado de México. Operation Smile also opened another new site in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon.

Operation Smile's global volunteer network includes 55 medical professionals from Mexico, who donate their time in Mexico and all over the world. Since 2006, Operation Smile has provided surgical care to more than 2,200 patients in Mexico.

MOROCCO

First medical mission in Morocco: 1998

Operation Smile has conducted medical programs in 36 cities across Morocco since 1998. In 2008, Operation Smile opened a care center in Casablanca, which provides ongoing medical and dental care to hundreds of children throughout the year.

Operation Smile's global volunteer network includes over 250 Moroccan medical professionals and dozens of non-medical volunteers who donate their time to care for patients in Morocco and around the world. Over the past 17 years, Operation Smile has provided free reconstructive surgery to more than 7,500 patients and provided dental care to more than 5,600 patients in Morocco with cleft lip, cleft palate, and other facial deformities.

MYANMAR

First medical mission in Myanmar: 2010

Operation Smile conducted its first medical program in Myanmar in 2010. Over the past five years, Operation Smile has provided free surgical care to more than 400 patients in Myanmar with cleft lip, cleft palate, and other facial deformities.

NICARAGUA

Over the past 22 years, Operation Smile has conducted medical programs in eight cities across Nicaragua.

Operation Smile's global volunteer network includes over 120 Panamanian medical professionals, as well as hundreds of non-medical professionals, who donate their time in Panama and around the world. Over the past 24 years, Operation Smile has provided surgical care to more than 3,100 children in Panama with cleft lip, cleft palate, and other facial deformities.

PARAGUAY

First medical mission in Paraguay: 2005

Over the past decade, Operation Smile has conducted medical programs in Asunción. Operation Smile's global volunteer network includes more than 50 medical professionals and non-medical volunteers from Paraguay who donate their time in Paraguay, as well as elsewhere in South America. Since 2005, Operation Smile has provided medical care to more than 1,600 children in Paraguay with cleft lip, cleft palate, and other facial deformities.

In September 2014, Operation Smile Paraguay opened a year round care center, Clínica Integral de Labio y Paladar Hendido Del Paraguay, to provide surgeries to patients with cleft lip and cleft palate. In addition to surgical consultations, the center provides dental and orthodontics care, child life, nutrition, psychology consultations and speech therapy.

PERU

Since 1999, Operation Smile has conducted medical programs in 12 cities across Peru. Operation Smile's global volunteer network includes over 150 volunteers from Peru, who donate their time in Peru and around the world. Over the past 16 years, Operation Smile has provided free medical care to more than 4,100 patients in Peru with cleft lip, cleft palate and other facial deformities.

PHILIPPINES

Since 1982, Operation Smile has conducted medical programs in 73 cities across the Philippines. Operation Smile's global volunteer network includes more than 220 medical professionals and non-medical volunteers who donate their time in the Philippines and around the world. Over the last 33 years, Operation Smile has provided free reconstructive surgery to more than 26,400 patients and dental care to more than 5,100 patients in the Philippines to patients with cleft lip, cleft palate and other facial deformities.

RUSSIA

First medical mission in Russia: 1993

Since 1993, Operation Smile has conducted medical programs in 17 cities across Russia. Operation Smile's global volunter network includes approximately 100 volunteers from Russia, who donate their time in Russia and around the world. Over the last 22 years, Operation Smile has provided medical care to about 3,000 children across the country with cleft lip, cleft palate, and other facial deformities.

RWANDA

First medical mission in Rwanda: 2010

Since 2010, Operation Smile has conducted medical programs in Butaro, Kigali, and Musanze. Over the past five years, Operation Smile has provided free surgical care to about 1,300 patients in Rwanda.

SOUTH AFRICA

Since 2006, Operation Smile has conducted medical programs in seven cities throughout South Africa. Operation Smile South Africa, located in Cape Town, provides volunteer support, raises funds and builds awareness about cleft conditions worldwide.

Operation Smile's global volunteer network includes over 100 medical professionals from South Africa who donate their time in South Africa, as well as across the world. Over the past nine years, Operation Smile has provided free reconstructive surgery to about 270 patients in South Africa, including World Care patients with more complicated facial deformities.

THAILAND

Operation Smile’s UK volunteers and supporters have helped provide thousands of reconstructive surgeries for children around the world. In addition, the BBC has broadcasted two documentaries featuring Operation Smile’s work.

Operation Smile's Global Headquarters are located in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

VENEZUELA

First medical mission in Venezuela: 1993

Since 1993, Operation Smile has conducted medical programs in 16 cities throughout the country. Operation Smile's global volunteer network includes more than 100 medical professionals from Venezuela, who volunteer their time and expertise in Venezuela as well as around the world. Since 1993, Operation Smile has treated more than 8,000 patients in Venezuela with cleft lip, cleft palate, and other facial deformities.

VIETNAM

Website: Operation Smile Vietnam

First medical mission in Vietnam: 1989

Since 1989, Operation Smile has conducted medical programs in 35 cities across Vietnam. In 2014, Operation Smile launched a national registry initiative in Vietnam while conducting large-scale surgical programs to commemorate the 25th anniversary of our first medical mission there. The effort included dental missions, simultaneous cleft missions, a cranio-facial mission, a micro-surgery mission, a high school student conference, education conferences, on-going training for speech language pathology and nursing, and research for International Family Study and barriers to care.

Operation Smile's global volunteer network includes more than 185 medical professionals from Vietnam, as well as hundreds of non-medical volunteers. Since 1989, Operation Smile has provided free reconstructive surgery to more than 21,300 patients and dental care to more than 10,900 patients with cleft lip and cleft palate in Vietnam.
